Description

The combination of non-through slots and straight holes roller shell is a hybrid surface design for pellet mill rollers, featuring both non-penetrating short slots and regularly arranged straight holes on the same working face, forming a “slot-hole” dual-function surface. The non-through slots provide directional gripping and axial material guidance, while the straight holes introduce discrete “compression-relief” micro-cycles that effectively expel entrapped air and free moisture from the material. The synergistic effect enables the roller to combine the high gripping efficiency of slotted rollers with the air/moisture expulsion advantages of hole-type rollers.

This composite design is particularly suitable for medium-fiber materials with fluctuating moisture content, such as fermented feeds, distiller’s grains, and certain biomass raw materials. The non-through slot structure avoids the stress concentration and excessive fiber shearing associated with through-slots, while the straight holes improve pellet density through periodic pressure relief. The surface opening ratio and slot density should be optimized according to material characteristics. High-chromium cast iron or powder metallurgy steel is recommended, with micro-chamfers at hole edges to further reduce edge stress.
