Description

In the selection of pellet mill accessories, the groove structure of the roller directly affects material pressing performance and equipment operational stability. Unlike the straight-through groove roller, which has gained significant attention in recent years, the No straight slot roller shell remains irreplaceable in specific production scenarios. A No straight slot roller shell refers to a roller whose axial grooves are non-continuous, featuring interruptions, inclined deviations, or closed ends, preventing material from being fully discharged axially along the grooves.

The reason why No straight slot roller shells have long existed and remain widely used in the market lies in their unique advantages in the following aspects:

First, stronger material intake capability. Due to the interruptions or inclined structures in the grooves, the No straight slot roller shell generates additional transverse shearing and kneading action on the material during rotation. This design significantly enhances the roller’s ability to grip and bite into the material, making it particularly suitable for raw materials that are fine-grained, have poor flowability, or contain a certain amount of moisture, such as some feed ingredients, organic fertilizer materials, and biomass materials with higher viscosity.

Second, higher pellet density. Because the material stays in the grooves for a relatively longer time and is subjected to multi-directional compression and kneading, the non-straight-through groove structure helps increase the material’s compression ratio. This results in finished pellets with smoother surfaces, higher density, and better durability, making them less prone to powdering during transportation and storage. This characteristic makes it highly favored in the production of high-quality feed pellets and high-density biomass fuel pellets.

Third, suitable for long-term production of medium to low hardness materials. For materials with medium fiber content such as corn, soybean meal, and grass meal, as well as raw materials like organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer that cause relatively mild wear on the roller, the No straight slot roller shell provides stable pellet output while ensuring effective pressing. It also offers good groove wear uniformity, making it suitable for extended continuous operation.

In terms of material and process, high-quality No straight slot roller shells are typically manufactured from high-alloy steel or carburized bearing steel (e.g., 20CrMnTi, GCr15) through forging, carburizing, overall quenching, and low-temperature tempering. The working layer hardness reaches HRC58-62, while the core maintains good toughness, ensuring the roller does not easily crack or deform under high-intensity compression conditions.

Regarding compatibility, No straight slot roller shells can be customized with inner hole diameter, keyway, roller width, and groove parameters (depth, width, pitch, interruption position, etc.) according to original mill specifications. They are compatible with both ring-die and flat-die pellet mills and fit major brands worldwide.

In summary, with its strong material intake capability, high-density forming performance, and good adaptability to specific materials, the No straight slot roller shell continues to hold significant application value in the production of feed pellets, organic fertilizer pellets, and certain types of biomass pellets.
