Description

The no straight slot roller shell, also known as a smooth roller shell, is a type of pellet mill roller without any axial straight grooves on its surface. Its working face is a continuous smooth cylindrical surface that relies on friction and radial compression to feed material into the ring die holes. With no shearing action from groove edges, the no straight slot roller shell is particularly suitable for pelleting high-oil materials (e.g., oilseed meals), high-moisture materials (15%-20%), or sticky materials containing molasses, effectively preventing die blinding, excessive particle breakage, and localized overheating of the ring die.

Compared to through straight slot rollers, the no straight slot roller shell offers more uniform stress distribution with no risk of fatigue cracking at groove roots, thus extending overall service life by 20%-30%. However, its material “bite” capability is weaker, requiring a smaller die-roller gap (0.1-0.3mm) and forced feeding devices. Recommended materials include high-chromium cast iron or carburized steel, with surface roughness controlled at Ra 1.6-3.2μm – too smooth causes slipping, too rough accelerates ring die wear.

Maintenance tip: Regularly inspect for hardening layer peeling or elliptical wear. The primary failure mode is surface polishing rather than fracture. The no straight slot roller shell is the preferred solution for oilseed feeds, fermented raw materials, and certain chemical granulation applications.
