The combined slot-and-hole roller shell is an innovative integrated design for pellet mill rollers, featuring both continuous grooves (straight/oblique/arc grooves, etc.) and chamfered hole arrays on the same working surface, forming a “groove-hole”system. The grooves provide powerful radial gripping and axial material conveying capability, while the chamfered holes introduce periodic “compression-relief” micro-cycles during compression, expelling entrapped air and free moisture from the material. The smooth chamfered hole edges simultaneously eliminate stress concentration at traditional hole edges and guide fibers smoothly into holes rather than cutting them.

This composite design offers the dual advantages of high gripping efficiency from grooved rollers and low shear, air/moisture expulsion from hole-type rollers. The grooves ensure effective material bite and, making it particularly suitable for high-fiber, low-bulk-density materials. The chamfered holes improve pellet density and surface smoothness while reducing die blinding risk. This design is especially suitable for biomass raw materials with high fiber content and fluctuating moisture levels, as well as feed production lines that require both high capacity and pellet quality. The groove-to-hole parameter ratio must be customized and optimized according to material characteristics.
