Summary of feed pellet machine failure causes and troubleshooting methods-01

Home news-posts Summary of feed pellet machine failure causes and troubleshooting methods-01

01. No Raw Material Entering the Pelletizing Chamber

Causes:
  1. Conditioner blockage or feed inlet bridging.
  2. Malfunction in the feeder screw drive system.
  3. Feeder screw blockage.
Solutions:
  1. Clear the conditioner or feed inlet.
  2. Inspect and fix the feeder screw drive system.
  3. Remove material blockage from the feeder screw.

02. Raw Material Enters Pelletizing Chamber but No Pellets Produced

Causes:
  1. Die holes are blocked.
  2. Raw material has too much moisture.
  3. Excessive gap between the die and roller.
  4. Severe wear of the feeder scraper.
  5. Severe wear of the die rollers.
  6. Die holes are excessively flared.
Solutions:
  1. Clear feed from the die holes.
  2. Control the moisture content of the raw material and steam.
  3. Adjust the gap between the die and rollers.
  4. Check or replace the scraper.
  5. Inspect the wear condition of the die rollers.
  6. Repair the flared die holes.

03. Pellet Machine Motor Cannot Start

Causes:
  1. Material buildup in the pelletizing chamber.
  2. Electrical circuit issues.
  3. Limit switch is not contacting the operating lever on the shutter or door.
Solutions:
  1. Clear the material buildup.
  2. Check the electrical circuit and fix any issues.
  3. Inspect the condition of the limit switch.

04. Noise and Severe Vibration

Causes:
  1. Bearing damage.
  2. Severe wear of the ring die or press rollers.
  3. Excessively small gap between the ring die and press rollers.
  4. Foreign objects in the conditioner or feeder.
  5. Loose main shaft bearings.
Solutions:
  1. Replace the bearings.
  2. Replace the die rollers.
  3. Adjust the gap between the die and rollers.
  4. Clear any foreign objects.
  5. Tighten the nuts to reduce the bearing clearance.

05. Large Fluctuations or Uneven Pellet Quality

Causes:
  1. Insufficient steam supply or fluctuating pressure in the steam pipe.
  2. Unstable raw material feed.
  3. Worn deflector blade scraper causing uneven feeding.
  4. Uneven wear of the press rollers.
Solutions:
  1. Check the steam pipeline.
  2. Adjust the feeding speed.
  3. Replace the deflector blade scraper.
  4. Inspect and address uneven wear of the press rollers.

06. Pellet Machine Stops During Operation (Belt/Gear)

Causes:
  1. Inadequate tension or misalignment of the V-belt causing speed controller to activate.
  2. Improper parameter settings on the speed controller.
  3. Severe wear or breakage of some or all V-belts.
  4. Overload or foreign objects caught between the press rollers and ring die, causing the main shaft to stop and limit switch to disengage.
  5. Insufficient pressure on the clamp or grease on the brake disc causing slippage and main shaft rotation, disengaging the limit switch.
  6. Electrical circuit issues.
  7. Door safety limit switch malfunction.
  8. Use of non-specified synchronous belts.
  9. Broken safety pin.
  10. Damaged pinion shaft.
Solutions:
  1. Re-adjust the V-belt tension or check the pressure on the hydraulic system pressure gauge and reset if necessary (handle with care).
  2. Reset the speed controller parameters.
  3. Install a new set of V-belts; do not replace only part of the set.
  4. Reset the main shaft and limit switch.
  5. Re-set the clamp oil pressure or clean the brake disc.
  6. Inspect and fix electrical circuit issues.
  7. Inspect and replace the door safety limit switch.
  8. Replace with specified synchronous belts.
  9. Check the pelletizing chamber and replace the safety pin.
  10. Replace the pinion shaft.

07. Frequent Pellet Machine Blockage

Causes:
  1. Worn deflector scraper causing uneven material distribution.
  2. Worn press rollers.
  3. One of the press rollers is stuck.
  4. Improper assembly position/angle of the deflector scraper.
  5. High moisture content in the feed.
Solutions:
  1. Replace the deflector scraper.
  2. Replace the press rollers.
  3. Inspect and fix the stuck press roller.
  4. Reassemble the deflector scraper to the correct position/angle.
  5. Reduce the moisture content in the feed.
  6. Improve the material formulation.

08. Main Shaft Temperature Rise

Causes:
  1. Main shaft bearing clearance is too small.
  2. Overload.
Solutions:
  1. Replace the bearings.
  2. Reduce the load.

09. Safety Pin Shearing

Causes:
  1. Hard foreign objects entering the pelletizing chamber.
Solutions:
  1. Remove the foreign objects and replace the safety pin.
